Saturday 18th March – HLNC Match Report

Hinckley Ladies Netball A team were away to top of the league, Harbury on Tuesday night. Hinckley knew from the off that this game would potentially put them in a good position for promotion. However, the first 5 goals went straight to Harbury as Hinckley hadn’t quite switched on but managed to pick up the pace to close the gap by 1. The second quarter for Hinckley saw difficulties in the shooting circle due to solid defence from Harbury who stretched their lead to 27-20. In the second half Hinckley’s shooting duo got their eye in, teamed with good down court play and great defensive work, the score was tied 39-39 at the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter started with fire for both teams going for the win, every goal counted and turn overs were made. It wasn’t until the Hinckley GS Carole Payne landed awkwardly and had to go off injured with a fractured ankle that Harbury managed to apply the pressure and stretch their lead to win 52-49. POM was GD Kate Chamberlain.

Saturday 11th March – HLNC Match Report

Monday evening saw a nail biting derby match between Hinckley D and Hinckley C . From the off the C teams strong attack pressurised the D team defence with some strong play around the goal circle and strong drives to receive long feeds in the circle . At the end of the 1st quarter there wasn’t much in it but the C team took to court in the second  with determination to pile on the pressure successfully taking a small lead advantage . Undeterred the D team came back in the third  with fire in their belly and with precise passing down the court and pin point accurate shooting from the shooters  the D’s edged slightly ahead . It was all down to the last quarter with both defences staying composed and tight.. With only 1 goal in it, the D team secured another win 38-37. POM went to Zoe Stokes for her outstanding shooting  for the C team and to WA  Liz Newman for the D’s playing up from the E’s for her tireless attacks up and down the court .

Back to Netball 2019

Back to Netball

HLNC will be running 10 ‘Back to Netball’ sessions led by a UKCC Level 2 coach, to provide a gentle re-introduction to the game.  You will be shown techniques to help you master the basic skills like passing, catching and footwork.  Along with this, each week you will also be given an understanding of the rules which will allow you to take part in match play in a fun environment with like minded ladies.

What is Back To Netball?

Back to Netball is an initiative introduced by England Netball which has been running since 2010.  Sessions are held nationwide where women aged 16+ who have not taken to a court for a few years or since school, are encouraged to come along and have a go.  Since its formation, 60,000 women have taken part and seen the benefits of getting involved in a fun, team sport. Hundreds of women from all over the country are getting “Back to Netball” each week so whether it is about rediscovering sporting abilities you forgot you had or becoming active again, Back to Netball is a fun way of getting fit and making friends.

Where and when:

The sessions will be held on the HLNC courts at the Leicester Road Sports Ground, Leicester Road, Hinckley LE10 3DR between 7.00 – 8.15pm.

The dates for 2019 are:

  • Monday 4th, 11th, 18th & 25th March
  • Monday 1st, 8th, 15th & 29th April
  • Monday 13th & 20th May

New added dates:

  • Monday 10th, 17th & 24th June

How to get there:

To get to the courts, follow the signs to Leicester Road Sport Club turning off the Leicester Road into the Hinckley Rugby Club complex. Follow the road along and past the tennis courts. Go through the large metal gates and keeping the clubhouse on your left, go past this and you will see the courts and plenty of parking space in front on you. Cost will be £3 per session.

What you will need:

You don’t need any special kit, just clothes that you feel comfortable exercising in and suitable trainers that lace up. Converse or fashion canvas “plimsoll” types are not allowed, as you will be running and jumping so suitable footwear that provide grip and ankle support is a must. For safety, you will be required to remove all jewellery (wedding bands can be taped), nails need to be short with long hair tied back and don’t forget to bring plenty of water to keep hydrated!

We are already taking expressions of interest for these sessions so if you think this might suit you and want to give it a go, we would love to hear from you.  To put your name down to be kept informed or if you would like any further information about this please email Gemma Braga (gemmabraga267@gmail.com) who will be leading the B2N sessions.

Saturday 4th March – HLNC Match report

Hinckley A had two games this week, the first midweek facing Jets in heavy rain. Their engines were ready after a two week break.  An energetic and quick start to the game suited Hinckley’s style of play and gave them a secure 10-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. Despite a WD change for Hinckley and the opposition scoring three consecutive goals, Hinckley’s centre court players weren’t phased and made numerous impressive interceptions, getting the ball quickly back to the Shooters and managing to stay ahead 20-14 as they went into the third quarter. This was a difficult period with slippery courts and tough conditions, but the dynamic shooting duo continuously managed to score increasing the gap to 32–24 by the end of the quarter. With a final push despite the weather, Hinckley continued a high standard of play finishing the match 43-32. POM was Wing Attack Ashleigh Oakes.

Saturday 11th February – HLNC Match report

Hinckley ladies A team were looking to maintain their winning streak v Stockton at home last week. The game started pretty steadily for Hinckley with a 10 goal lead after the first quarter. With excellent attacking play and defensive work in and around the circle, Stockton had been stretched to a 17 goal difference by the end of the second quarter, 30-13. The umpires took hold of the game as the heat started to rise, Hinckley were stretching the gap further despite decisions not going their way. Carole Payne and Carmen Whittaker, the shooting duo, were on fire consistently shooting well. The last quarter started goal for goal until again, Hinckley’s defence came out strong, but not enough to ensure Stockton did not get within half for a point. Hinckley secured a 62-31 with POM Kate Chamberlain at GD.

Saturday 21st January – HLNC Match Report

C Team Vs Ambleside

Hinckley C team were away at Ambleside this week and were hoping they would be able to make amends for a two goal defeat in their first encounter. Hinckley started well and managed to creep to a 13-10 advantage after the first quarter. The second saw Hnckley stretching their lead despite excellent shooting from Ambleside’s young shooters to 27-22. The second half Hinckley grew in confidence with the ball flowing well through the attack and finished with some great shooting from Zoe Stokes and player of the match Emily Harrison. The defence continued to work hard at the other end and contributed to an impressive 52-34 victory for the Hinckley side.
