Saturday 9th April – HLNC Match Report

Hornettes

Hinckley Hornettes returned to good form this week and achieved a well deserved win against Highway 30-26. Hinckley demonstrated great versatility and flexibility throughout the match with players playing several positions, including usual GD Katie Foster showing off attacking skills as GA, C Helen Vause becoming a challenging defence as GK and Sarah Ward initially at GK changing to WA. Although Hinckley ended the first quarter one goal down, the team rallied together and came back strong in the second going ahead by four goals and maintaining their lead until the end.  Despite Highway’s highly accurate shooting, Hinckley’s imposing defence limited their opportunities with GD Anna Ball earning player of the match for her energetic interceptions and support through the centre third to turn the flow of play to attack for Hinckley. The shooters managed to convert these opportunities into much needed goals in a challenging match.

Saturday 2nd April – HLNC Match Report

A Team

A depleted Hinckley A side were home to Bulkington C this week. Hinckley started out strong with a three goal lead but this was soon back to level pegging and going goal for goal. Bulkington managed to just pull ahead at the end of the first quarter to take the lead 10-8. Hinckley fought back and a well battled second quarter ensured a half time draw of 19-19. Bulkington picked up the pace in the second half whilst Hinckley allowed Bulkington to get the better of them leading to a full time score of 44-35 to the Bulkington side. Player of the Match, Ashleigh Oakes.

B Team

Hinckley B travelled to Leamington for their last away game of the season. Leamington started strong and due to a shooter that didn’t miss they took a good lead at the end of the first quarter. The shooting combination of sub Darcey Arrowsmith and Emily Harrison was dynamic with some excellent long range shooting. Hinckley were not able to close Leamington’s lead but took away a much needed point from the game with a final score of 53-29. Player of the match went to WD Julia Waite for her relentless hard work in defence.

E Team

Hinckley E played away against Bedworth this week. Starting confidently with the goals going in well for the shooters, Hinckley were ahead 10-7 by the end of the first quarter. They maintained their three goal lead in the second thanks to some good interceptions from their defence. During the third quarter Hinckley made changes which didn’t pay off as they only scored 5 goals and allowed Bedworth to pull up level. At 23 all going into the final quarter, Hinckley switched back and heeding their Captain’s instructions to ‘fight for everything, concentrate and don’t give up’, managed to go ahead once more. Their hard work and determination paid off as they went on to win the game 32-29. Player of the match was GD Ella Wilkinson
