Saturday 7th May – HLNC Annual School’s Tournament

Last Saturday morning, Hinckley Ladies Netball Club hosted their third annual Schools Invitational Tournament and it was once again a great success. Four local schools entered the event and a total of 9 teams played on the day. There was some great Netball played by the girls ranging in age between 11 and 14. Congratulations go to Dixie Grammar School who won the Year 7 competition, Hastings High School who won out of the Year 8 teams and Heathfield Academy who won in the Year 9 group. There was also a penalty shootout competition for the Year 7’s which was won by Hasting’s Millie Davies. The club would like to say a big thank you to Walkers Crisps for donating two boxes of crisps to the club for the event. Also a massive thank you to all of the volunteers who helped out and made the day possible, including all of the umpires, scorers, teachers and parents. It was a great way to wind up the Netball Season.

Wednesday 4th May – Hornettes Match Report

During the first half the Hinckley Hornettes match against CNWC they were not looking on top form. As half time came there was a coming together of minds . The second half began strongly, working together as a single unit. Sarah Ward impressed everyone with some surprise defensive moves. This impressive effort was followed up with a brilliant attack by Katie Foster, boosting the team’s morale. This exhilarating demonstration of sportsmanship was further supported by brave efforts  by  Helen Vause, winner of Player of the Match. The combined hard work of the team, as valiant as they were, met an impressive opposition. Despite the Hornettes playing  as a solid  team the final score was 35-19 to the opposition.

Hinckley A were looking to end the season on a high this week against Cov Sphinx after a nail bitter in the previous meet between the two with Hinckley winning by one goal. A great start by Hinckley, great defensive play and conversion of shooting opportunities allowed Hinckley to take an early lead 11-5 at the end of the first quarter. Sphinx came out fighting in the second quarter and despite managing to pull back some goals Hinckley were able to maintain composure for the following two quarters. A shakey start to the final quarter allowed Sphinx to get back in the game, narrowing the gap but Hinckley managed to pull it together and not let the lead go with moments of great play from the home side. Final Score Hinckley 45 Cov Sphinx 39. Player of the match WA Ashleigh Oakes.

Saturday 9th April – HLNC Match Report

Hornettes

Hinckley Hornettes returned to good form this week and achieved a well deserved win against Highway 30-26. Hinckley demonstrated great versatility and flexibility throughout the match with players playing several positions, including usual GD Katie Foster showing off attacking skills as GA, C Helen Vause becoming a challenging defence as GK and Sarah Ward initially at GK changing to WA. Although Hinckley ended the first quarter one goal down, the team rallied together and came back strong in the second going ahead by four goals and maintaining their lead until the end.  Despite Highway’s highly accurate shooting, Hinckley’s imposing defence limited their opportunities with GD Anna Ball earning player of the match for her energetic interceptions and support through the centre third to turn the flow of play to attack for Hinckley. The shooters managed to convert these opportunities into much needed goals in a challenging match.

A depleted Hinckley A side were home to Bulkington C this week. Hinckley started out strong with a three goal lead but this was soon back to level pegging and going goal for goal. Bulkington managed to just pull ahead at the end of the first quarter to take the lead 10-8. Hinckley fought back and a well battled second quarter ensured a half time draw of 19-19. Bulkington picked up the pace in the second half whilst Hinckley allowed Bulkington to get the better of them leading to a full time score of 44-35 to the Bulkington side. Player of the Match, Ashleigh Oakes.

B Team

Hinckley B travelled to Leamington for their last away game of the season. Leamington started strong and due to a shooter that didn’t miss they took a good lead at the end of the first quarter. The shooting combination of sub Darcey Arrowsmith and Emily Harrison was dynamic with some excellent long range shooting. Hinckley were not able to close Leamington’s lead but took away a much needed point from the game with a final score of 53-29. Player of the match went to WD Julia Waite for her relentless hard work in defence.

E Team

Hinckley E played away against Bedworth this week. Starting confidently with the goals going in well for the shooters, Hinckley were ahead 10-7 by the end of the first quarter. They maintained their three goal lead in the second thanks to some good interceptions from their defence. During the third quarter Hinckley made changes which didn’t pay off as they only scored 5 goals and allowed Bedworth to pull up level. At 23 all going into the final quarter, Hinckley switched back and heeding their Captain’s instructions to ‘fight for everything, concentrate and don’t give up’, managed to go ahead once more. Their hard work and determination paid off as they went on to win the game 32-29. Player of the match was GD Ella Wilkinson

Saturday 12th March – HLNC Match Report

A Team

A depleted Hinckley A were home to LMR Rugby A this week having to draft in two C team players to make up a full side. Both teams started out strong, going goal for goal but Hinckley were just able to pull ahead managing a lead of 15-10 after the first 15 minutes. The Hinckley side maintaining control and possession pulled off an impressive second quarter of 16 goals to 5 ensuring a 31-16 lead at half time. After pushing so hard in the first half the Hinckley team started to tire but would not allow LMR to catch up the goal difference. As the final quarter started, an injury to the Hinckley side left them with just 6 players but fantastic defence, incredible energy from Centre Rebecca Oldfield, covering two positions, and continued goals from the shooters ensured a Hinckley win 51-41. Player of the match was Ashleigh Oakes.

B Team

Hinckley B had a tough match against Griff & Coton this week and lost out 24-49

Saturday 5th March – E Team Match report

Hinckley E had a tough game against Cherry bombs.  With several changes required to the team again Hinckley started off slowly only managing to score 2 goals in the first quarter. In the second, play was mainly around the centre court with both sides not managing to finish their scoring opportunities and by half time it was 12–5 in Cherry Bombs favour. Unfortunately Cherry bombs continued to dominate the game and despite Hinckley making some changes in the attacking circle which seemed to settle play it was too late.  Annis Pears at GK had a great game with many interceptions and Bec Kenney at WD won player of the match. The final score 29–14.
