Saturday 14th January – HLNC Match Report

Hinckley Ladies A team were away at Rugby Railway to face the only team who have beat them this season. Both teams had a firey start and took their chances. The newly arranged Hinckley defence Nicola Coulson and Alice Roche, kept Rugby at bay by making some fantastic interceptions. Hinckley turned over possession by picking up from Rugby mistakes and then the attack countered well. With consistent play and shooting by Hinckley’s shooters, they managed to pull back the slight lead Rugby had, to a draw. The final minutes of the last quarter saw some decisions fall for Rugby resulting in a 46-51 loss for Hinckley Ladies. POM was Ashleigh Oakes.

Hinckley B kicked off the second half of the season with much needed win against Synergy C. Both teams went goal for goal initially, ending the first quarter at 9 goals each. However in the second quarter some great linking play in centre court, solid defence and super shooting by Hinckley saw them pull away from Synergy, leading by 13 goals at half time. Hinckley carried the momentum into the third quarter, turning over loose balls and capitalising on mistakes made by the opposition to get the ball into the goal third, where fantastic shooting by both Denise Ibbetson and Darcey Arrowsmith extended Hinckley’s lead to 21 goals at the end of the third quarter. The final quarter saw some team changes by Synergy C, however Hinckley kept their cool and sealed the win with a final score of 50-24. Player of the Match was awarded to GS Denise Ibbetson.

The C team faced Alec High this week in the wet and windy conditions, not making this an easy match. The whole team were fighting to keep an upper hand with the Hinckley’s defence working hard continuously to gain turnovers and possession. Alec High started to gain a good lead which Hinckley could not catch. The attackers, struggling to work around Alec High’s fast, tall defenders, gave everything to try and keep possession.  However the final score was 37-17, player of the match was awarded to WD, Annis Pears for her relentless efforts in defence.

Hinckley D faced Alvis B team knowing that a win was needed to secure their second place position in the division . With a tight defence Hinckley knew it was going to be a tight and competetive match . Hinckley started well taking the lead in the first quarter however the Alvis shooters continued to pressure. The match became eventful in the second as the Hinckley GD was injured resulting in a change of team positions .Alvis provided a difficult challenge, however Hinckley’s speed and cohesive ability along with well timed dynamic drives allowed the ball to travel swiftly and efficiently down the court into the attackers .The final result went Hinckley’s way 48-37 with both shooters Lynda Sanders and Holly Hemsley sharing POM.

Hinckley E played Godiva away in their turnaround match of the season. Hinckley had a poor first quarter finding it difficult to feed the ball into the attacking circle allowing Godiva to take advantage and an early16-5 lead. Hinckley reorganised their attacking formation and scored 9 goals to Godiva’s 5 in the second quarter and started to close the gap. Hinckley kept a positive attitude throughout the match, fighting even harder in the third quarter to close on Godiva’s lead, getting within 4 goals at one point and finished the quarter 29–23. Both Hinckley shooters were against tight defenders but Anna Poulson playing GA gave a physical battle back earning her a well deserved player of the match. Despite the defence working extremely hard to keep the ball out of the hoop and never giving up, Hinckley could not do enough to stop Godiva’s flawless shooter scoring and Godiva went ahead to win the game 39–31.

An excited and determined F team met Alvis D at home this week. The Fs quickly took control of the game and thanks to some strong work in centre court, were constantly feeding the ball into the attackers.  The consistently strong team-work meant that Hinckley took an early lead and managed to keep hold of it despite Alvis pushing hard to try and regain control. The F’s hard work was rewarded with their first win of the season and a strong score of 38-6. Player of the Match went to Katie Eaves for some very strong shooting and dynamic moves across the court.
