Saturday 16th April – HLNC Match Report

A Team
Hinckley A were looking to end the season on a high this week against Cov Sphinx after a nail bitter in the previous meet between the two with Hinckley winning by one goal. A great start by Hinckley, great defensive play and conversion of shooting opportunities allowed Hinckley to take an early lead 11-5 at the end of the first quarter. Sphinx came out fighting in the second quarter and despite managing to pull back some goals Hinckley were able to maintain composure for the following two quarters. A shakey start to the final quarter allowed Sphinx to get back in the game, narrowing the gap but Hinckley managed to pull it together and not let the lead go with moments of great play from the home side. Final Score Hinckley 45 Cov Sphinx 39. Player of the match WA Ashleigh Oakes.

B and C Team

The last weekend of the league season saw Hinckley B and C competing against each other for club honours. With both teams safe from relegation the match was closely fought with the lead regularly changing hands.  Both team defences had an excellent game with player of the match performances from the B’s GD Laura Williams and GK Issy Omerod and the C’s GK Jo Oakes. The Cs managed to hold on to the narrow lead they took into the last quarter to win 33-32.
E Team
Hinckley E played Godiva at home mid week. It was close throughout but Hinckley were always behind. Starting the final quarter 19-22 down Hinckley fought back and with tight, relentless pressure from POM Annis Pears at GK they went ahead to win 27-23.  Excellent teamwork by all.
Unfortunately Saturday’s match at home against Ernesford wasn’t such a happy ending for the E team. Again Hinckley were behind by a few goals throughout the match. Hinckley ‘s tight defence tried to make it difficult for the accurate GS  who rarely missed. However Hinckley ‘s attack were frustrated with their game against a very physical Ernesford defence and missed a few opportunities, unable to do enough to close the gap. Hinckley eventually lost 27-32.
