Saturday 27th February HLNC Match Report

A Team

Hinckley A were home to Leamington C this week and after an unfair loss first time around, Hinckley were looking for a win on the turnaround. Both teams pushed hard in the first quarter with Hinckley trailing by just one goal. Despite starting out the second quarter strongly and the game continuing to go goal for goal, Leamington picked up pace and a tall shooter on the opposing side made defending balls in to the circle difficult for the Hinckley side leaving them trailing by 6 goals, 21-15 at half time. Leamington continued to convert their opportunities and turn over Hinckley possession in defence, and despite a hard push in the final quarter from Hinckley with many tips and interceptions, they were unable to make up the deficit. Final score, Leamington C 52, Hinckley 28, ensuring a point for Hinckley. Player of the match was Ashleigh Oakes at WA.

B Team

Hinckley B team travelled to meet Henley E team in Coventry this week. Hinckley got off to a good start creating a lead in the first 5 minutes with some great teamwork from the shooters. Hinckley carried on the good work and developed a 10 goal lead by the end of the third quarter. The whole team dug in to the end of the game. Much credit goes to the defenders. Laura Williams put in a sterling performance at GK having worked all night the night before and player of the match went to GD Issy Ormerod who made many important interceptions that resulted in additional goals for Hinckley. Final score was a win for Hinckley 27-34.

D Team

This week the D team faced the experienced side, Alec High. Hinckley took to the court starting strong. Direct, accurate passes were made down the court and sharp interceptions turned over the possession into Hinckley’s favour. The first quarter finished 6-5 and the game continued in this end to end fashion. Alec High really made the Hinckley side work for every goal, their defence were quick and forceful and by the end of the third quarter Alec High had managed to get ahead by 3 goals. Hinckley tried to stay composed and worked tirelessly to close the gap. Unfortunately Alec High managed to maintain their advantage and the game finished Hinckley D 27 Alec High 30. PoM was Beth Williars at WA.

E Team

Hinckley E started their game against Highway on a back foot as they were only able to field 6 players.  Hinckley dropped the WD position in the first half which left Highway free to capitalise on their free player and despite brilliant defending from both GK and GD Highway were leading 8–2 after the first quarter.  Losing 3-22 at half time, Hinckley had few shooting opportunities and decided to revert back to their normal full defence in the hope that they could at least stop Highway scoring too many goals. Hinckley’s GA and GS also switched position to see if they could create more space and shooting opportunities. The third quarter was much better with Hinckley scoring 5 to Highways 8.  However the deficit was too great to close the gap. The game finished 13–42, disappointing that despite their efforts Hinckley couldn’t do enough to take any points from the game.  POM was deservedly jointly awarded to GK Annis Pears and GD Ella Wilkinson.

Hornettes

Hnckley Hornettes winning streak came to an end this Wednesday at the Flexi League against Leamington Back-To-Netball. The first quarter was hard, with only three goals scored by the Hinckley team, however they battled on and were soon scoring with ease. Despite being 12 down at one point, the Hornettes pulled together as a team and only just lost out 24-26, even though they won the last two quarters. Player of the Match went to Fiona Holliland who excelled at both Goal Attack and Centre
