This week saw another Hinckley derby with the C’s versus the D’s. Both teams were in high spirits searching for an important win. Hinckley D team settled into the first quarter quickly with calm precise passes up and down the court and came away with a slight lead after the first quarter. The D’s steadied the pace in the first half, dominating the speed of the game and making countless interceptions .The C team made some changes after half time bringing on Ede Roche as WD to provide extra support for their tight defence duo.
Both of the team’s attackers worked tirelessly in the goal circle to capitalise on the strong feeds delivered to them by their centre court players. By the final quarter the D team had pulled away with a strong lead but the C team continued to chase every pass to try to overturn play. Final score 54-24 to the D’s with POM going to Jo Oakes and Lynda Sanders.
Hinckley Ladies A team went to Ambleside for the first coming together of the two teams this season. An energetic and quick start to the game left Hinckley ahead at the end of the first quarter 9-5. Despite a GA change for Hinckley, Hinckley’s defensive duo of Alice Roche and Kate Chamberlain were superb, making numerous interceptions and getting the better of the Ambleside shooters pushed Hinckley to a 33-20 lead. With a final push and the end in sight, Hinckley knocked it up a notch finishing the match 43-27. POM was Goal Shooter Carole Payne.
The B team were back chasing another win after a few weeks off. Playing against local rivals Ambleside F, Hinckley knew they were in for a tough game but hoped they would have the home team advantage. Keeping the score within 5 goals throughout the game, Hinckley were fighting constantly with extreme shooting from Player of the Match Denise Ibbetson closing the gap. With tight defending from Nicola Coulson and Leanne Evans Hinckley fought to catch up. But in the final quarter Ambleside finally found their stride and began to pull away, ending the game with a final score of Hinckley B 38 to Ambleside F 50.
Hinckley F’s returned to the home courts this week to take on Bedworth. Despite the cold, both teams hit the ground running with some strong shooting at both ends of the court. Some amazing interceptions by Hinckley’s defence kept the pressure on Bedworth who took a 5 point advantage early on. There was some fantastic movement from Katie Eaves at GA who managed to appear from thin air, startling her opponent. Despite a positive and strong start, Hinckley were just unable to pull the score back which finished 33-18 to Bedworth. POM went to the Ninja-like Emily Lawrie at C, who had her best game of the season so far.
