Saturday 6th February HLNC Match Report

D Team

The heavy rain this weekend didn’t stop the fighting spirit of the Hinckley D team. Yet to lose a game as a full 7, the team were confident going on court and determined to get the better of their opponents, Ernesford. Hinckley D started the match well, staying calm and controlled, and were able to maintain this throughout. The home side were quick to act on Ernesford’s mistakes and began to pull away. The centre court linked well to ensure that the ball came down the court smoothly, then a combination of strong shooting and relentless defending secured another impressive victory for Hinckley D team. 47-22. Player of the Match was Holly Hemsley at GA.

E Team

Hinckley E’s played an exciting, wet game against Jaguar Land Rover B. Knowing that the last time they played, it ended in a draw they took to the court with a strong team, though the captain and GS were both missing. Hinckley started slowly with Jag taking the lead 9-4 after the first quarter. They continued to fight hard but Jag managed to keep the lead 18-14 at half time. As the third quarter started, the weather turned and the wind and rain picked up and there were few goals from either team, the score 20-17. Hinckley E’s found a boost in the final quarter, giving everything they could and were rewarded as they took the lead in the last few nail-biting minutes, taking the final score to a 25-24 victory for Hinckley. Strong defensive play throughout the game resulted in Annis Pears and Bec Kenney taking a shared POM.  Hinckley E’s played an excellent game and despite a slow start, deserved the win for their great efforts.

A Team

Looking to continue their winning streak Hinckley A took on top of the table Ernesford A this week. A slow start from Hinckley allowed Ernesford to gain a good lead after the first quarter 17-5. Ernesford continued to pile the pressure onto Hinckley ensuring a half time lead of 28-12. Hinckley came out fighting in the second half and managed to turn over possession scoring 10 goals to Ernesford’s 9 in the third quarter. Unfortunately it was too late for the Hinckley side to make a comeback and despite some great play from Hinckley the weather conditions did not affect the Ernesford shooters with them converting every opportunity ending the game 46-28. Player of the Match was Ashleigh Oakes.

B Team

Hinckley B played Alvis B on possibly the wettest day of the year. The weather however did not dampen spirits. Hinckley’s centre court players Anna Kinsella and Sadie Baker worked tirelessly throughout and made numerous interceptions. Whilst Hinckley fell behind on goals they won the last quarter due to the hard work of the defensive duo of Laura Williams and Jess Burke. At the end of the match Hinckley picked up two hard earned points finishing 22-27 with GA Emily Harrison as player of the match.

C Team

Hinckley C had two games this week. They took to the courts against Alvis on Wednesday night in a rearranged match. It was a close game with a final score of 44-42 to Alvis. The team managed to stay ahead by one or two goals for most of the match, but frustratingly lost by two goals at the end of the last quarter. Player of the match was awarded to Goal Attack, Darcey Arrowsmith.

Then again on Saturday the C’s started strongly against Highway C, leading by 6 goals to 4 at the end of the first quarter.  Conditions were challenging, with both teams struggling to control the ball in the wet and windy weather.  Highway were able to build a lead in the middle of the game with some excellent shooting from their goal attack, despite tireless defence from the Hinckley GK and GD.  Scores in the fourth quarter were tied, but Highway went on win the match 24-18.  Player of the match was awarded to Hinckley GD, Jess Burke.
