Saturday 10th October – HLNC Match Report

A Team

After last week’s win, Hinckley A were looking to continue their league success this season. At home to Nuneaton Old Eds, Hinckley started out strong at both attacking and defensive ends ensuring  a clear lead of 14 goals to 1 after the first quarter. Despite Old Eds attacking hard in the second, Hinckley’s defence circle duo of Claire Aspinall and Kate Randle ensured Hinckley’s lead remained through their tight defence and fantastic interceptions.  Going into the final quarter Hinckley had a 29-14 lead and with Hinckley’s Centre linking the attack and defence perfectly, controlling play and ensuring Hinckley secured a 38-21 victory. Player of the match was WA Ashleigh Oakes

B Team

Hinckley B team travelled to Coventry to take on Henley D . Unfortunately their WA was injured in the first quarter of the game and sub Caron Ogden took to the court for her second game of the day. Along with Sadie Baker she worked tirelessly throughout the centre court to defend,  attack and deliver the ball to the shooters. The final score 41-36 to Henley with two vital points scored largely due to the robust efforts and consistent scoring of sub Holly Hemsley who earnt her second player of the match award of the day.

C Team

Hinckley C took on rivals Coventry and North Warwickshire B in a tough match this week. The Hinckley team fought hard till the end with some excellent defending and some brilliant goals scored. However, Coventry and North Warwickshire still managed to pull away, beating Hinckley 35-27. Player of the match was awarded to the two defenders Emma Draycott and Jess Burke.

D Team

The D team faced a young Harbury side this week and quickly went 1-4 down. However, Hinckley played a controlled game and outwitted their opponents with some good dodges. Leanne Evans (GD) turned over multiple centres with impressive and well timed interceptions and soon Hinckley were pulling away from their opposition keeping the whole game at their pace. A combination of solid defending and pin point accuracy from shooters  Lynda Sanders and Holly Hemsley (POM) saw Hinckley secure a well deserved win. Hinckley 50 Harbury 34.

E Team

Hinckley E began their match against Stockton strongly, finishing their first quarter 6 all.

The defence had to work particularly hard against the tall Stockton shooters in the second quarter forcing them to make a few errors but despite many interceptions Stockton managed to go ahead and at half time were leading 16-12. In the third the E’s attack worked well together feeding the ball around the circle with good backup support from their WD.  With some excellent long range shooting Hinckley did bring the score line back to within 1 goal and this was their best quarter. However, Stockton’s tight defence did enough to distract the Hinckley shooters and despite end to end play there were some missed opportunities as Hinckley were unable to get their eye back in. Stockton continued to pull away in the last few minutes and won the game 33-24. Player of the match went to Di Norman at WA.

F Team

A very determined F team took to the court at Griff and Coton and immediately  took the lead. Sabrina Kemp worked hard as wing attack to take almost every centre pass even whilst on several occasions being double marked. Working the ball up the court well there were some great feeds into the circle allowing the shooters to keep scoring the goals. The defence of Jayne Marlow and Player of the match Nicola Coulson in the circle was strong, closely backed up by the wing defence. Hinckley took possession from the opposition over and over again. It became close towards the end of the third quarter with Griff closing the score slightly but the F team retained their lead for the duration of the match and a final push took the end score to 29-24.
