Looking to continue winning form, Hinckley A were home to Harbury A this week. A bad start put Hinckley on the back foot as they were unable to convert as successfully as Harbury leaving them down by 8 after the first quarter. Despite fantastic periods of court play from defence all the way down to the shooting circle, Harbury’s height in defence and attack ensured Hinckley were unable to reduce the scoreline. Persistence from Hinckley ensured a point for the home team despite a final score of 56-37. Player of the match was once again Ashleigh Oakes at WA.
Hinckley B team lost away to Coventry and North Warwick B 60-15 with Goal Keeper Laura Williams awarded player of the match.
Hinckley C had two matches this week. The first a rearranged Wednesday evening fixture against on form Henley D. Henley adapted to the bitter cold conditions much more quickly than Hinckley and swiftly romped ahead leading 24-6 by half time. Hinckley came back into the game in the second half with their defence better containing the very strong Henley attack and the Hinckley attack getting more opportunity to shoot. However the half time deficit was too much to close down and Hinckley lost the match 42-20. Player of the match went to WD Caron Ogden.
On Saturday the C team welcomed Griff & Coton B to their home ground. Having been beaten when they met earlier in the season, Hinckley were determined to come away with a victory and they started very positively drawing 7-7 at the end of the first quarter. However, the visitors took control in the second quarter and took the lead. Hinckley worked hard to turn over many balls but Griff continued to close Hinckley down whilst adding to their own goal tally and finished winners 35-22. Player of the Match was again awarded to WD and team captain Caron Ogden.
This week Hinckley D team faced C&NW D and, as expected, it was a physical game that demanded Hinckley D remained tough. Due to having both the GK and GD missing for this match, Hinckley had to switch players about as Gemma Braga and Anna Poulsen stepped into the team in attack with some excellent linking play and spot on shooting. Considering the changes, Hinckley D managed to pass the ball down court in a controlled, well-timed and accurate manner. Long balls were the tactic of choice for C&NW so, despite some great tips on the balls from Hinckley’s Beth Willars and Holly Hemsley in defence, there was little that could be done to stop the C&NW attack who managed to creep ahead bit by bit in each quarter ending with a final score 49-35 to C&NW. Hinckley’s POM was Holly Hemsley at GD.
Hinckley’s E and F team were due to play each other earlier in the day in a league match, however at the time of their match the courts were unplayable being completely frosted over.
