Saturday 17th October – HLNC Match Report

D team winners

A Team

Hinckley Ladies Netball A were at Home this week, looking to continue their winning streak against Ernesford A. Both teams started out hard with end to end play and great shooting from both teams meant the first quarter ended up 11-11. Ernesford continued to attack hard and despite great defending from Hinckley Ernesford managed to gain a 7 goal lead at half time. Ernesford continued to convert their opportunities in the shooting circle and despite fantastic steady play down court from Centre Rebecca Oldfield, Hinckley were unable to convert at the same rate as Ernesford, losing the game 26-46. Player of the match was Ashleigh Oakes at WA.

B Team

Hinckley Bs travelled away again this week and brought home their first win of the season. Finishing the first quarter 6 goals down a win did not initially seem to be on the cards but the whole team rallied and the shooters Gail Lavery and Emily Harrison played confidently together scoring many needed goals under pressure. The team took the lead in quarter 3 and due to calm tactical play by defender Jess Burke and the centre court players Hinckley retained the lead to the end. Final score 40-42 with star shooter Emily Harrison as player of the match.

C Team

Hinckley C also achieved their first win of the season against Highway C this week. The team was determined to accomplish their collective target of “driving forward”, which was reflected in their 38-17 win. Mid-court worked well to control the game, making precise passes and excellent feeds to the shooters. The defence played an equally great game, getting numerous interceptions and bringing the game back to the attack. Player of the match was awarded to Goal Defence, Jessica Burke.

D Team

Hinckley D faced Ernseford D this week and had an evenly matched, end to end battle from the start. Unfortunately long, high balls became the choice of tactic for the Ernesford attack and despite the best efforts to intercept from the Hinckley defence the balls kept getting past them. The final result was 52-41 to Ernseford. Holly Hemsley picked up her third successive POM nomination.

E Team

It was a closely fought match for Hinckley E away at Jaguar Landrover . Once more with changes to the team following an injury at training and unavailability Hinckley took to the court with another new line up. Play was even during the first quarter, both teams matching each other goal for goal, finishing 7-7.  Hinckley’s attack linked well with quick passing and agility as they went on to score 10 goals in this second quarter taking them ahead by 4.   Hinckley’s defence intercepted many balls and were driving the ball up court well, limiting Jaguar’s opportunities in the shooting circle. Still leading in the final quarter, Hinckley’s concentration lapsed slightly and Jaguar closed the gap and eventually finished the game 28 all.  Player of the match went to Sian Hickey, her second match of the day at Centre, for her energy and great positioning on court.

F Team

The F team had a tough game on their hands from the very start this week. It was a fairly evenly matched game but Godiva C pulled slightly ahead in the first quarter. Hinckley F were short of a few of the usual line-up but were well supported by their subs from the Hornettes’ squad which aided a switch round at half time. Hinckley’s defence were strong with Nicola Coulson and Hattie Lockley (Player of the Match) taking several rebounds and despite some fantastic feeds from Jayne Marlow at Goal Attack into the circle resulting in many goals, the game finally ended 37-27 to Godiva C.
