Saturday 21st November – HLNC Match Report

HLNC D Team

A Team

Away at LMR Rugby A, Hinckley A team started out strong, managing to gain a great lead at the start of the first quarter through great court play, defence and shooting. Despite LMR beginning to convert towards the end of the first quarter bringing back some goals, Hinckley maintained the lead 8-4 at the end of the quarter. The cold and the wind started to affect Hinckley and despite great defensive work, Hinckley struggled to take the ball down court to the shooters allowing LMR to make up the deficit to a score of 21 all at the end of the third quarter. Hinckley were unable to remain composed and keep possession in the final quarter, whilst LMR stepped up a gear and converted all of their opportunities to win the game 31-25, Hinckley just missing out on an extra point. Player of the match was Ashleigh Oakes.

B Team

Hinckley B team lost at home this week to Griff & Coton B, 22-38, with defenders Julia Waite and Jess Burke jointly named Player of the Match.

C Team

Hinckley Ladies ‘C’ team were expecting a tough game against second in the league Leamington ‘E’. The first quarter saw Hinckley struggling to keep possession as Leamington flew ahead 17 goals to 3. Hinckley stepped up their game in the second with their shooters getting more chances of shots on goal due to good feeds. By half time Hinckley had managed to slightly reduce Leamington’s lead to 22-11. Great defensive work from Hinckley saw them battle with Leamington to a 19-32 score going into the final quarter. Hinckley were still hopeful to get half of the Leamington score to take away a point from this match however, goals were hard to come by in this final session for Hinckley and they finally lost the match 21-51. Player of the match went to Goal Defence Jessica Burke for her constant, determined defence work.

D Team

A chilly start to the game but the D team began on fire! Hinckley were extremely strong in the first and second quarters, playing with control and with great shooting. At half time they were ahead 19-3. The opposition made some changes for the third quarter which caused problems for Hinckley, however they remained calm and held on for a 30-20 victory, taking them to the top of the league table. Player of the match was jointly won by Leanne Evans and Holly Hemsley.

E Team

Hinckley E played Ambleside at home in freezing windy conditions this week.  With yet another new line up Hinckley started with evenly matched play.  Goal scoring in the first quarter was limited for both teams, Hinckley finishing just behind 5–8.  In the second Hinckley’s attack improved their play and with some sharper passing into the circle though remained 15-19 behind at half time. Annis Pears , back from injury, had a fantastic game at GK against a tall Ambleside GS, intercepting many  long balls into the shooting circle, despite the height difference.  The defenders marked the nimble GA and WA very closely , linking well with each other and having excellent back up from Centre Sian Hickey. Unfortunately Hinckley’s shooters did not have a good last quarter finding it difficult against a very tight GK. Ambleside increased their lead and finally won the match 39-25 with player of the match going to GK Annis Pears.

F Team

The F team were glad that the wind had died down by the time they took to the court at 3pm. Bedworth are bottom of the league so Hinckley were determined and confident of a win. With a couple of regular players missing they had a slight rearrangement of the team line up but a strong start saw the F team leading from the off. The defence worked hard and took possession of several rebounds from Bedworth’s unsuccessful shots. In the final quarter Hinckley stormed ahead and finished 39-28 with Wing Attack Alice Wilson awarded POM.
