A Team
Hinckley A team were looking to get back to winning ways at home to Stockton B this week. Both teams started out strong with end to end play and the score line going goal for goal, Hinckley just having a lead at the end of the first quarter 6-5. Fantastic defensive work stopped Stockton from catching up Hinckley’s lead with great interceptions from Kate Randle and Hinckley converting goals at a higher rate meant that Hinckley had a comfortable lead at half time of 18-10. Hinckley managed to maintain possession in the second half with Rebecca Oldfield linking the attack and defence to lead Hinckley to a 33-15 win with Ashleigh Oakes at Player of the Match.
B Team
Hinckley B team took on Highway C away this week in a difficult game losing 17-36 despite an outstanding performance from player of the match WA Anna Kinsella.
C Team
Hinckley C marked the return from injury of Goal Keeper Jo Oakes by recording their second win of the season. Starting for the first time with their intended team line up, Hinckley started solidly against Coventry & North Warwickshire D with the score tied after the first quarter. Hinckley built a lead in the second and third quarters, keeping their passes tight given the wet and windy conditions. In the last quarter Hinckley were patient, maintaining possession to deny C&NW scoring opportunities. Final score was 30-24 to Hinckley, with player of the match being awarded to Hinckley Wing Defence, Caron Ogden.
D Team
The D team took to the court feeling positive after a bout of successive wins. Despite this Keresley B took an early lead. However, Hinckley D did not let it deter them and soon they were in their stride and closing the gap. The opposition played a tight defensive game, but with Hinckley’s speed and agility, as well as the great support from the sideline, the D team kept going and by the end of the first quarter they had managed to get in front. With smooth, well timed passes combined with solid defence from Emma Draycott and Leanne Evans, Hinckley D secured their third win of the season winning 48-37. PoM was WD Beth Willars.
E Team
Hinckley E had a tough match against top of the league Cherry Bombs, again fielding a different team line up due to ongoing injuries/illnesses. Hinckley struggled to get the ball successfully through to the shooters in the first quarter and Hinckley’s scoring opportunities were limited leaving them 4–10 at the end of the first quarter. Changes were made in the second quarter and Hinckley came out with a different mentality and got within 1 goal of Cherry Bombs. The changed defence were brilliant. With many interceptions Hinckley did enough to distract the attack who could only score 6 in this quarter, finishing 13-16. unfortunately the third quarter lacked lustre for the attack and frustratingly again the goals just didn’t go in. Hinckley’s WD Rebecca Kenney fed some strong long balls into the circle from centre court but Hinckley could only do enough to get a point from the game and lost 24–43. POM went to Nicola Coulson at GD/GK, for her excellent play.
F Team
Hinckley F played at home against Alvis this week. Both teams had a very slow start in the cold and rain with both only scoring 1 goal each in the first 5 minutes. By the end of the quarter each team started to get their rhythm going goal for goal but Alvis managed to turnover a centre pass and pulled ahead 5–3. Hinckley were without their normal goal shooter and whilst having no problem getting the ball into the circle just could not quite capitalise on the goals in the rain. Hinckley fought tirelessly throughout the whole game with some excellent passing but this was not enough to beat Alvis. Final score was 34–19 to Alvis with POM going to Hattie Lockley who made some amazing interceptions throughout the game.
Juniors
It was a mixed weekend of results for Hinckley’s junior teams. The under 16s squad took the lead against Ambleside in the first quarter of their match dominating play as they eased the ball down court. But despite gaining an early advantage the opposition picked up the momentum to steal a winning score of 35 goals to Hinckley’s 6. Player of the Match was once again awarded to the adaptable and dynamic Katie Eaves.
