Saturday 7th November – HLNC Match Report

D Team

Despite the wind and rain Hinckley D team remained cool, calm and collected with steady balls, tight marking and unstoppable shooting! Numerous interceptions turned the defensive play into attacking play as Hinckley kept applying the pressure to Alec High for the whole 60 minutes. The D team also made use of some excellent lob tactics after a great midweek training session from Coach Jayne Marlow. Final score was a magnificent 59-39 win to Hinckley and POM was Holly Hemsley.

A Team

Away at Leamington C this week, Hinckley Ladies A were looking to maintain their position in the top half of the table. Both teams started out strong and with end to end play, the first half ended evenly at 18-18. Player of the match Carmen Whitaker and shooter Carole Payne kept their cool converting their opportunities ensuring Hinckley had a three goal lead going into the final quarter. Leamington C came in to the final quarter fighting and despite great defensive play from Hinckley, unfortunately decisions went against them, and they were unable to maintain their lead, losing 36-31.

B Team

Hinckley B team notched up another win this week, finally able to play as selected. The game was close from the start with the opposition just edging ahead at half time. Hinckley pulled away in the third quarter thanks to a run of goals largely due to some excellent interceptions from GD Issy Ormerod which were quickly converted by the team’s sharp shooters including player of the match Emily Harrison. The team stayed composed and maintained the lead to the end of the match. Final score 32-27 to Hinckley.

C Team

Hinckley Ladies C team played at home this week against Henley D. The Cs started the game well despite the windy conditions. The first two quarters were won by Hinckley due to some strong defence and consistent shooting. Unfortunately in the last half Henley managed to pull away and lead despite Hinckley’s strong teamwork. The final score 44-27 and Player of the match Lucy Masser.

E Team

Hinckley E had an extra match to fit in last week and played Alvis away.  It was a close game throughout with some fantastic extreme shooting from GS Denise Ibbetson and consistent scoring in each quarter. At half time the score was 19-15 in Alvis’s favour. Despite some great defending from Hinckley Alvis continued to stay ahead by 4 goals throughout the game. An injury in the third quarter forced changes and Hinckley remained behind and disappointingly lost out on an extra point losing 36-30. Player of the match went to Anita King who played GA and C.

Saturday’s E team match away against Highway looked like it wasn’t going to go ahead due to injuries, fortunately F team players played up and the league granted a postponement to their own fixture. The team coped very well in windy conditions, especially the shooters and short sharp passes were used to good effect in attack.    Communication was difficult in the wind and at times Hinckley were muddled in mid court but still managed to get the ball through to the attack. However, despite good defence and some lovely interceptions Hinckley could not do enough and lost 35 – 23.  Player of the match went to Ella Wilkinson for another fantastic week playing a very tight GK.

Hornettes

Play heated up as the Hinckley Hornettes met Coventry and North Warwick at the Back to Netball Flexi League last Wednesday night. The Hornettes dominated the first quarter and finished ahead, with Player of the Match, Ede Roche intercepting passes and playing a strong Centre, backed up brilliantly by the Hornettes shooters. Heading into the final half Coventry pulled ahead, despite a strong defensive line between Claire Chaudhuri and Sarah Elliot who defended the goal brilliantly between them. However, in a very close game, Hinckley just missed out, the final score Hornettes 22, C&NW 24.

Juniors

Hinckley U16s fought their toughest match yet against opposition Harbury.  The skill levels displayed by Hinckley were outstanding – driving forward on to every ball, using the space on court to lose their opponents and forcing error after error to gain possession, but despite an encouraging start in the first quarter with the girls just behind on 3 goals to 8, the oppositions strength of passing down the court allowed them to steal a convincing win over Hinckley.  The final score was 31 vs 5 to Harbury with a very well deserved Player of the Match awarded to Hinckley’s Katie Eaves.
