Saturday 26th November -HLNC Match Report

Hinckley E played Griff & Coton C  away at the weekend.  Hinckley worked well at the start  to take an early lead finishing the first quarter 7–4 ahead. The second quarter continued with Hinckley’s defence  intercepting many loose balls and always getting the rebounds when Griff’s shooters failed to score, Griff only managed 3 goals this quarter and at half time Hinckley had increased their lead further.Hinckley remained in position, whilst Griff made changes to their team, but in the third quarter Hinckley’s  attack were tremendous.  Some fantastic movement from GA Lucy Ibbetson coupled with great long range shots by Anna Poulson at GS they scored an amazing 15 goals this quarter taking the score to 30–12. In the final quarter Hinckley continued with the same spirit and stormed ahead to take a 37–16 victory.  Player of the match went to GD Heather Fraser  for the second week in a row.

With Hinckley G currently unbeaten and sitting at the top of the league, their match against Stockton on paper looked to be in their favour. However, a mix up over player availability put Hinckley on the back foot as they had to play the match one player short.  It was not a high scoring match, with Hinckley finding it tough going to move the ball through the mid court where the opposition’s extra player swamped them.  However, solid turnovers from the defensive duo ensured that Stockton were unable to score at will and with the Stockton defenders both dropping onto Hinckley’s GS, Tracey Pallet at GA had enough freedom in the circle to feed accurate passes to her shooting partner who duly converted.  However, having worked tirelessly to establish a 17-11 lead in the last quarter, Hinckley’s GA fell badly on her ankle and the match had to be abandoned.

Meanwhile mid table Hinckley H, took on second placed Highway.  An evenly matched first quarter was followed by a confident performance by Highway  to push themselves out to a 16-7 lead by half time.  However, Hinckley came back fighting in the second half winning the third quarter and drawing the fourth.  Although the final score line favoured Highway 28-21, it was the H teams strongest and most positive performance so far, notably from two of the youngest players; POM Maddie Trickett at C and Milly Hemus at GS.

B Team

Hinckley B had two matches this week. In the first they travelled to Henley D on Wednesday evening. It turned out to be a high impact game with Hinckley suffering several injuries during the match. Unfortunately the game had to be abandoned late into the last quarter, with Hinckley losing the match 40-29. Player of the match was awarded to the Hinckley wing attack Anna Kinsella.

Due to the injuries suffered earlier in the week, Hinckley B had a much changed team on Saturday when they played Offchurch.  Hinckley started the match well, finishing the first quarter only 1 goal adrift. In the middle periods Offchurch drew ahead due to more accurate passing and excellent shooting. Despite out scoring Offchurch in the last quarter the gap was too large to bridge with Hinckley losing the game 35-31. Player of the match was awarded to the Hinckley goal attack Emily Harrison.

Juniors

Hinckley juniors were in action this week as they played Stratford B in their second game of the season. They struggled to get going with the scoreline at the end of the first quarter 3-9. Stratford’s consistent pressing and a few Hinckley mistakes stretched their lead to 4-19. Hinckley managed to pull a few goals back with some good linking up play and excellent defensive interceptions, however this wasn’t enough with Stratford playing fantastic netball finishing the third quarter 29-7. It was Hinckley’s aim to be persistent and see the game through to try and reach double figures, which they achieved with the game finishing 10-40. Player of the match was Wallis Newitt.

Wednesday 19th October – HLNC G and H Match Report

It was a top of the table clash this week for Hinckley Ladies G team as they took on Highway at the Xcel Centre in Coventry.  Captain Katie Foster playing her last match for Hinckley, lead from the front and was inspirational at GD taking a batch of interceptions and turning play around to send the ball back into attack. Hinckley hung on to slender lead in what was a very evenly matched contest. However in the last quarter Hinckley put in a surge which proved decisive as they  took a 26 – 15 win which sees them move into top spot in the league. Player of the match was shared between Helen Vause and Anna Ball.

Hinckley H were full of confidence from their win last week as they met Queens Diamonds Rugby. However, both teams made a lot of unforced errors and at times the ball struggled to get to either attacking end. Hinckley saw the lead they had gained whittled down and it was anyone’s match in the last quarter as the teams matched each other goal for goal. Luck however was on Hinckleys side as time was blown at 16 – 15 in their favour. Player of the Match went to Sam Davis at Goal Shooter.

Saturday 15th October – HLNC Match Report

With the A team their Goal Attack down, Darcey Arrowsmith stepped up from the B team to face Stockton. Hinckley A started with a storm leading 11-6 at the end of the first quarter. They continued to progress and improve throughout the game and this was not just down to the forever flowing attack taking their chances. The defensive duo of Kate Chamberlain and Alice Roche only allowed Stockton to let in two goals in the 3rd quarter taking  it to 38-12 to Hinckley. Hinckley held this performance and progressed it even further by playing some very good netball, scoring a whopping 19 goals in the last quarter to make the final score 57-20. POM Ashleigh Oakes.

It was the day of the first of many local derby matches, with Hinckley having three teams in the same division this year. A solid, strong Hinckley D team  took to the courts against the much respected Hinckley B ,dictating the play by taking the lead of 10 in the 1st 2 quarters. Both defensive teams worked tirelessly to overturn centres and intercepted passes .  A change of player in the B team for the third quarter  meant fresh legs and helped them to decrease the lead by overturning a few of the centres but the D’s held tight chasing every ball down to secure their third win in a row for the season! Player of the match went to Sue Ley for Hinckley D and joint POM for Hinckley B went to Anna Kinsella and Denise Ibbetson.

Saturday 8th October – HLNC Match Report

Hinckley’s B team got off to a slow but steady start with some great play around the court by all members of the team. Alec high started to pull away from the off due to some accurate shooting by their attack. Hinckley quickly picked themselves up and fought hard for every ball, this was shown by a fantastic 4th quarter, unfortunately it ended in a loss of 30-26. A Team

Hinckley Ladies A team had a slow start in their first match of the season at home against Rugby’s LMR but eventually warmed up and went on to finish the first quarter 11-11. Persistent efforts into the circle by Rebecca Oldfield and Ashleigh Oakes didn’t always come off due to the tight LMR defence and the away team managed to gain a 16-24 lead by the end of the second quarter. Despite injury to the Hinckley WD, their shooters scored 8 goals in the third quarter as glimpses of good attacking play pulled off, taking the score to 24-33. Unfortunately LMR had a little more in the tank to pull away in the final period taking the match 28-45. Player of the match was WA Ashleigh Oakes.
