Saturday 6th February HLNC Match Report

D Team

The heavy rain this weekend didn’t stop the fighting spirit of the Hinckley D team. Yet to lose a game as a full 7, the team were confident going on court and determined to get the better of their opponents, Ernesford. Hinckley D started the match well, staying calm and controlled, and were able to maintain this throughout. The home side were quick to act on Ernesford’s mistakes and began to pull away. The centre court linked well to ensure that the ball came down the court smoothly, then a combination of strong shooting and relentless defending secured another impressive victory for Hinckley D team. 47-22. Player of the Match was Holly Hemsley at GA.

E Team

Hinckley E’s played an exciting, wet game against Jaguar Land Rover B. Knowing that the last time they played, it ended in a draw they took to the court with a strong team, though the captain and GS were both missing. Hinckley started slowly with Jag taking the lead 9-4 after the first quarter. They continued to fight hard but Jag managed to keep the lead 18-14 at half time. As the third quarter started, the weather turned and the wind and rain picked up and there were few goals from either team, the score 20-17. Hinckley E’s found a boost in the final quarter, giving everything they could and were rewarded as they took the lead in the last few nail-biting minutes, taking the final score to a 25-24 victory for Hinckley. Strong defensive play throughout the game resulted in Annis Pears and Bec Kenney taking a shared POM.  Hinckley E’s played an excellent game and despite a slow start, deserved the win for their great efforts.

Wednesday 9th March – Hornettes Match Report

Hinckley Hornettes met Griff and Coton for the second time this season and were blessed with a rain free evening.  Calm and well paced play took the ball down the court but Hinckley were unable to convert all of their opportunities into goals. Coupled with Griff’s consistent shooting there was an eleven goal difference by half time. But the team remained calm and continued to play with a positive attitude.  Helen Vause provided excellent support to the shooters and made the most of GS Aly Steele’s height advantage. In the third quarter she and GA Tracey Pallett were shooting with confidence and narrowed the gap to just 7 goals. Hinckley lost momentum during the final quarter and although they didn’t score many more goals Griff were  able to maintain their seven goal lead. GD Katie Foster was relentless in her defence and intercepted pass after pass and was rightfully chosen as player of the match. Alongside GK Anna Ball Hinckley have a formidable defence.

The far more experienced team were always going to be a challenge for the Hornettes, but the quality of play this time round is testament to the improvements they’ve made so far this season. The match ended 14-21 to Griff.

Hinckley A were home to Leamington C this week and after an unfair loss first time around, Hinckley were looking for a win on the turnaround. Leamington continued to convert their opportunities and turn over Hinckley possession in defence, and despite a hard push in the final quarter from Hinckley with many tips and interceptions, they were unable to make up the deficit. Final score, Leamington C 52, Hinckley 28, ensuring a point for Hinckley. Player of the match was Ashleigh Oakes at WA.
